OHV V8 A full-size, personal luxury muscle car with rare options including the GS package, bucket seats and console, and functional air conditioning.
Powertrain:
By 1969, the GS was an option package for the Riviera, and only included a few mechanical details that differentiated it from a standard Riviera.
The engine was the same across the board:
the 430-cu.
in.
overhead valve V-8, delivering 370 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 RPM.
The Riviera GS featured a standard Turbo HydraMatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission.
Two other line items in the GS package included a 3.
42:
1 gear ratio, and a limited-slip differential.
Exterior:
There's little to no aftermarket for body parts or exterior trim for these cars, so finding one that's complete and undamaged is vital.
This example appears to be in very good condition overall, with no evidence of major corrosion.
Repainted at some point the original Verde Mist Green.
The seller points out one small rust bubble just ahead of the wheel arch trim on the passenger side rear wheel opening, which is visible in the photos of the car.
The paint work was reportedly done nine years ago, in the original shade of Silver Mist, and the seller has provided some accompanying photos of the car as it was being painted.
All of the exterior trim, including the individual letters spelling out RIVIERA on the hood, the hood spear, the leading edge hood trim, the bumpers and the lower body trim appear to be in excellent condition.
The grille is unique to 1969, and appears to be in good condition.
The exterior lighting is all functional.
Interior:
Again, lots of unique Riviera items on the interior, and many that are unique to the 1969 model year.
Power Windows.
The vinyl upholstery pattern is one-year-only, and appears to be in excellent overall condition, with no rips or tears present in the photos.
Most Rivieras without the GS package feature a bench seat, but the one-year-only console and floor shift separates the buckets, and it appears to be in excellent shape with no damage to the woodgrain or the plastic console.
Both door panels appear to be in good shape, with no deterioration of the armrests.
The dash appears to be in excellent condition, retaining its rich woodgrain strip and chrome paint details, which often wear off.
The only obvious modification is the Skylark GS-style three-spoke steering wheel, which was never a Riviera feature.
The radio is the original AM Sonomatic house brand, but it's not currently functional.
The original loop-pile carpet appears to be in excellent condition, protected by a set of matching mats.
The air conditioning is currently functional.
Chassis:
The wheels are Buick 15-inch road wheels, with the correct 1969 fluted center caps with the Riviera logo, unique to Riviera models only between 1966 and 1970.
The tires are:
BF Goodrich Silvertown.
Second-generation Rivieras are terrific vehicles with tons of power and style.
This 1969 Buick Riviera GS hits all the right buttons:
enormous V-8, bucket seats, console, working air conditioning, and a wallop of style few other cars could match.
